The first few days in a new country always feel a little overwhelming, as I struggle to pronounce basic words, decipher public transportation options, and locate a playground. Today, when all three of those efforts failed, I instead attempted to convince Theo that kicking an aluminum can around a large open space in front of a church was like being at a playground. It kind of worked.
Nicosia Municipal Gardens
Nicosia
The green line that splits Cyprus into north and south also splits Nicosia, which was described to me by several residents as the “last divided capital in the world” now that Berlin is united. Even though the country is still split, it’s been relatively easy to cross between the two sections since 2003.
Another sunny day in Cyprus… oh wait, that’s snow
Beaches
We woke up last Friday in our new home in Pissouri, gazed out at this lovely view…
…. and then promptly killed the electricity by turning on the hot water heater. Oops.
Poppy, Bella, and Theo
Theo eagerly awaits Poppy and Bella’s walk on the beach in the mornings. Bella is the only one who would look at the camera.
Sand Muffins
Truck Produce
A guy with truck bed full of fruits and vegetables parks by the side of the main street of Pissouri on Tuesdays. This week, on my second visit, and he greeted me with a handshake, asked after my ‘baby’, and then gave my a tour of what he had on offer for the day, including a large bottle of moonshine.
Aphrodite Temple
I’m sometimes hesitant to take Theo to places of “cultural interest”, because I don’t want to annoy the nice tourists who are visiting without toddlers. However, Aphrodite Temple in February was perfect for us; lots of outdoor space to run and only one other visitor.
Oh look! It’s another beach!
Yesterday, we were planning to visit some horses who hang out in a field about a three minute drive from our house. (Theo insisted on bringing his imaginary horse, Daniel, who was apparently wearing a green shirt.)
