I’ve posted before about how much I enjoyed Lyon, but I’ll say it again: I think this is an an amazingly livable, relaxed city. Here are some of our favorites from our one month stay!
Lodging
Flat near poetic “Parc Tête d’Or” – colorful, comfortable, and well equipped flat in a lovely, walkable area of Lyon
Places to Eat
Open Air Markets – most of our food came from these. Lovely produce, cheese, pasta, everything.
Les Halles de Lyon – huge daily market with all sorts of yums, savory and sweet
Cafe Mokxa – amazing espresso drinks, outdoor seating, laptop-friendly
Touts Les Coleurs – organic, vegetarian, super-flavorful food cooked in an open kitchen
Place des Sens – flavorful food (especially amazing cold corn soup), extremely friendly staff
Maison Cartieller – chocolate croissants, kouign amans, baguettes (of course)
Voisin – amazing chocolate and other sweets. Dark orange chocolate ba, chocolate almonds, and macaroons are particularly recommended
Places to Go
Par Tête d’Or” – possibly the best city park ever, with a lake (with rentable boats), a public piano, a free zoo, a small train, several playgrounds, and bike rentals at each entrance
Playground by Passerelle du College Pedestrian Bridge – experiments in moving water for children and permanent lounge chairs for parents, all with an amazing river view
Musée Cinéma et Miniature – amazing small scenes of life in Lyon, NYC, and elsewhere (I mostly skipped the cinema, but I’m sure it’s nifty too if you’re into that kind of thing)
Fountains – Theo loves fountains in general, but two of his favorites were the Fountain at Place Louis-Praddel and La Fontaine Bartholdi
Place to Shop
We are not big shoppers. However, last month both Theo and I replaced shoes in Lyon and we replaced some of Theo’s smaller clothes.
Exo Shoes – natural, comfortable shoes, extremely knowledgeable staff
Tom’s Chassures pour enfants -all shoes come with a balloon! (okay, so Theo’s did)
Prune et Carmel – nice used clothing for children
