Going into this trip, I knew that one of the challenges for me in particular would be the sheer amount of togetherness. In the past, I’ve generally traveled on my own, so continually coordinating outings with others (and especially coordinating with a two-year-old) is a personal challenge.
Wet Crepe
Theo has spent most of his life in California (much of it during a drought), and it took him awhile to embrace the rain in Ireland. Now, he is perfectly happy to be rained on as he eats a Nutella and banana crepe.
My Favorite Coffee in Ireland
Badger & Dodo, served out of the back of a truck. It was fantastic.
The Ewe Sculpture Gardens
We spent an afternoon at The Ewe Sculpture Gardens, described on its website as an “interactive and interpretive sculpture garden.” It was charming and easy to manage with a toddler.
Lough Hyne
Theo decided that the seagull was also named Theo. And sat down the by wall and refused to walk. The naming the seagull part was cute.

I (Heart) Roundabouts: Driving in Ireland
Just obtaining a rental car in Ireland was a challenge; even though we booked months in advance, when we arrived at the rental car location we were told that they were entirely out of cars. They shipped us off to another rental car location, where we were able to obtain a car, but because we needed a one-way drop-off on the other side of Ireland at the end of our trip, we ended up needing to drive back into Cork to exchange cars midway through the month.

West Cork Playgrounds
Three playgrounds we visited in West Cork, all overlooking water.
A Few More Photos from Wexford, Ireland
We spent our last three nights in Ireland near Wexford, in a low-impact chalet. Theo loved the outdoor foosball table, dogs, trampoline, and resident children. It was a lovely, peaceful way to end our month-long stay in Ireland.
Our Voyage on the Oscar Wilde
We took the overnight ferry from Rosslare, Ireland to Roscoff, France. Theo was talking about the boat trip for a couple of months before we left, but once we actually boarded the Oscar Wilde, it took about half the trip for him to be convinced that we were actually on a boat.
(In the photo above, Brian is trying to convince Theo that we are on a boat as we depart. Theo is not buying it.)
