For most of our trip (and four of the six years preceding it), we’ve been carless.
One of the benefits of being without a car is that it pushes me to explore (and often get lost in) my immediate surroundings. Moving slowly and meeting people is such a different experience than being in a quickly moving metal pod.
We do have a rental car here in Pissouri, and it’s been great for exploring the beaches, obtaining food, and scoping out nearby villages. However, probably because it’s so easy to zoom out of our immediate neighborhood, it took us three weeks to discover a small playground with a stunning overlook, only two blocks from our house.
Craziness.
