We had a cozy month in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Below is a list of the things that we recommend most from our stay from the town and nearby.
Our home for this month was shared with a wonderful woman named Helen, with whom we enjoyed many meals and conversations. She also “watched” a sleeping Theo for us for several evenings, letting Brian and I go out for meals on our own.
The apartment itself was old (maybe 18th century?), but had been more recently decorated by a man from Chile, making it simultaneously charmingly rustic and flamboyantly colorful.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Market
The L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue Thursday market was the largest we’d visited… until we went to the Sunday market, which was even more ginormous! We only bought food, but there were also antiques and an assortment of household goods for sale.
Thus far, wherever we’ve been settled, most of our food comes from markets.
L’Isle Vert
For the non-market-obtainable goods, we loved this cute natural foods store.
Swimming Pool
Theo LOVED the local indoor pool. Of course, he’s pretty enamored of water of any sort, so this shouldn’t be surprising. They warm the water on Saturdays to accommodate children.
Cerise Verte
A great second-hand children’s clothing store. Theo has been growing quickly, and after this last round of replacement clothing, I think his French clothes almost outnumber his other clothes.
La Boulangerie de Sophie
Their baguette de sophie was possibly the perfect baguette ever. The desserts never disappointed. Once we discovered this boulangerie, we visited pretty much every day. (Twice on special days, as well as the day when I managed to leave my wallet in the shop!)
Restaurant UMAMI
A somewhat upscale, semi-Asian and very tasty restaurant not far from our house.
